Math, Data Science, and Machine Learning
Hi, I'm Rae. I am an American data scientist, mathematician, researcher, and Iraq War veteran with more than 10 years of experience using novel techniques to solve complex data science problems in business, finance, and the Global War on Terrorism.
To answer a very common question I get: my hair costs me about $100 per month, but I'm not into shoes so I consider it a worthwhile expense.
2011 - Present
As a data scientist and strategy advisor, I have been working solo and as part of a team, using SQL and Python for exploratory data analysis to solve complex data science issues that have saved 5+ business clients from bankruptcy. I have been advising decisionmakers about marketing, financial & business strategy, supply chain issues, and labor use. I've also been helping entrepreneurs make decisions about about lease vs. buy decisions, raising capital, and equity vs. leverage.
As the Investment Officer & Data Scientist for the Guidon Investment Company, I have been using Python for data science and machine learning to model expected future trends, detect changes in current trends, and to assist me with risk management decisions.
Investments are primarily focused on energy, minerals, and mining.
I use APIs for data scraping to generate proprietary data research for algorithm development including regression, decision trees / random forests, and recommendation systems. My algorithm helped me avoid the entire Covid-19 market crash in March 2020 by advising me to position our funds against oil and the S&P500.
Military Service - United States Marine Corps
Prior to being a super-nerd, I was a super-nerdy Marine.
As a non-commissioned officer (NCO), I created a database to help my team oversee an inventory of $3 million of weapons and equipment while I was supervising the armory and working as a marksmanship instructor.
I also trained 20+ junior Marines on data collection, network analysis, and criminology for warfighting. I taught about prioritization of data into categories depending on time sensitivity and mission relevance.
During my time in western Iraq, I produced 1,000+ intelligence reports. I became a subject-matter expert in my assigned field, which created a scenario where I led a team before most Marines are considered to be a high enough rank to be a team leader.
I also briefed senior US civilian & military officials including generals and US government officials. I created deliverables and tailored them to the person who would be reading them.
I used network science to create military target packages and supervised a team of 4 in collection and analysis of time-sensitive, top-secret data in a stressful environment.
I still have the bragging rights of holding the range record (a perfect score) on the windiest range in the Marine Corps.
I believe in lifelong learning!
